How to mint NFT on Tezos blockchain — practical guide (periodicaly updated)
The Hic et Nunc (HEN) NFT marketplace is a great opportunity to start publishing your first NFTs. Mainly for the reasons listed below.
1. Why mint at Hic et Nunc (HEN)
- Anyone can publish NTF at Hic et Nunc (HEN). No approval process for authors. All you need is a Tezos cryptocurrency wallet (XTZ) worth about $ 1 (about 0.15 XTZ) and you can mint (issue) your first NFT. We calling that process “minting”. Your first NFT could be minted in a few minutes! You can buy XTZ for instance at Binance
- Great community of collectors and authors on Twitter. You can find there not only buyers and a large audience, but also a number of friends. You can follow me (PixYvonne), I will follow you back.
- Very low gas fees for minting or transferring your NFT. You will pay 100x lower price to minting or transfering NFT on Tezos blockchain than on Ethereum blockchain (OpenSea is based mainly on Ethereum).
2. What you need to mint your NFT
- For sure, you need some XTZ (Tezos coins) to mint your NFT. Curenlty (28.9.2021) is a minting price (including swaping) about 0.15 XTZ. I suggest you to buy minimum 10 XTZ (currently about 70 $). You can buy XTZ for instance at Binance.
- You need a crypto wallet to store your NFTs and XTZ coins. I am using Temple Wallet as a Chrome extension. It is very comfortable solution that let me manage several accounts in one time.
- Patience — NFT marketplace HEN is jounger than OpenSea and not so “mainstrem” and Tezos is also jounger. Some functions and features are not yet what we would imagine. The process of purchasing or minting of a NFT sometimes fails and needs to be repeated. Sorting NFTs within the HEN marketplace is not ideal, etc. Yes, we are at the very beginning of NFT boom.
3. NFT minting process
Ok, you installed wallet, you have a minimum about 10 XTZ, so you could start your own nft collection and offer NFTs to community.
- Sync HEN and your wallet — you have to connect Hic et Nunc with your Temple wallet.
- Decide how many editions your NFT will have and what royalties you set.
- Mint your NFT — create your NFT and pay minting cost. You are paying mint fee (under 0.1 XTZ, ie. 0.7$) during that moment.
- SWAP your NFT to offer it for purchase— offer your NFT for purchase, process is called SWAP. You are setting your NTF price during that moment.
Now I will show I) NFT minting process and II) swapping process step by step using screens captured during TezosApeClub NFTs minting.
I) Mint your NTF
One of most important decisions is to set a number of editions and royalties. It could not be a random number, but you have to apply a strategy… talking about this is out of scope of that article. I hope my article 7 advices how to make a great NFT collection could help a little with this.
II. Swap your NFT and offer for a purchase
Your NFT is minted, now you have to “SWAP” it and offer for a purchase at Hic et Nunc marketplace.
You have also confirm swap in your wallet. This is the same as in the previous step.
Your NFT is sent from your account to the marketplace account (now you no longer have full control over it and it is located on the marketplace side), where it can then be purchased by the applicant. To withdraw the NFT from the marketplace, you must cancel the swap operation.
4. How to create a atractive and value NFT collectoin
